About Me

My name is Rachel Mosier and I am a licensed psychotherapist in the state of Iowa.

I’ve been working in the field of psychological care since 2006. I started out working with children and providing parent training and then expanded to working with adults and couples. My work experience is both clinical and research based and includes working at community and college counseling centers, hospitals, and a therapeutic school. I’ve worked with a variety of clients—those struggling with severe psychiatric mental illnesses, parent-child issues, mood and anxiety problems, adoption issues, college students adjusting to new life transition, and more.

Change is possible for anyone with the right support and guidance.

I believe everyone deserves a healthy and happy life. There will always be ups and downs in life, but gaining understanding of yourself and your past and learning skills to manage thoughts, emotions, and behavior, make the downs less daunting and the ups more enjoyable.

I believe therapy should be collaborative and include a trauma-informed perspective.

Experiences in life that have felt threatening or involved toxic stress in environment or relationships, impacts how a person walks through the world. I understand the process of working with those deep issues and the coping patterns they may have created, while also maintaining a foundation in addressing the issues in the “now”.

Feeling secure in early relationships leads to positive attributes in a child.

These positive attributes in children (linked to secure attachment) include, higher self-esteem, better problem-solving abilities, and perhaps most importantly, enjoying more happiness (and less anger) with their parents. My training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy and Circle of Security, both evidence-based practices, focus on assisting parents or caregivers in learning the road-map to a more secure attachment with the child. Although my work with parents is collaborative, maintaining they are the expert of their child, I am focused and direct in providing my knowledge of parenting skills and child development as guidance for improving the relationship, and in turn, the behaviors of the child.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if have any questions about therapy work with me. I will be honored to accompany you on your path to better well-being.

Sincerely,
